So let’s explore the top 15 Formstack alternatives together.

Each of these alternatives boasts its own set of distinct features and capabilities. We'll delve into their strengths, weaknesses, and expert reviews to help you find the ideal tool to elevate your form-building endeavors.

What is Formstack?

Formstack is a form vendor tool designed for simpler use cases around forms and documents. It provides an easy and intuitive platform for creating and managing online forms, surveys, and documents without needing advanced technical skills.

With Formstack, users can easily build customized forms for data collection, event registrations, lead generation, and more.

It offers features such as conditional logic, data encryption, and data management tools to streamline the form creation and submission process. The platform also provides analytics and reporting tools to help users gain insights into their form performance and collect valuable data.

What Are All of Their Products?

Formstack offers a comprehensive suite of products designed to streamline the process of collecting data, creating documents, and obtaining electronic signatures.

Their form product enables users to easily create customized online forms for surveys, applications, registrations, and more. This allows for the efficient collection of information and data from customers, clients, or employees.

The document product provided by Formstack allows users to automate the creation of professional-looking documents, including contracts, proposals, and other business forms. This feature helps to save valuable time and ensure consistency in the creation of important documents.

Formstack's e-signature product enables organizations to securely collect electronic signatures on documents, forms, and contracts. This digital signature solution simplifies the process of obtaining legally binding signatures and eliminates the need for physical paperwork.

Pros:

  • Easy to navigate and use, especially for beginners or for simple use cases.
  • Offers a no-frills approach to form creation and data collection.

Formstack makes creating forms and surveys extremely easy, whether to collect robust data for research or to get quick rsvps for an event. I even use Formstack as a teacher--I will create a form that requires students to submit a relevant reflection, link the formstack to a qr code that students can quickly use, and then display student responses for in-class discussion. Formstack is particularly helpful because it allows for file submission. I also like that I can easily share the live link, without worrying about complex distribution via email.

Cons:

  • Limited in terms of design customization and advanced logic capabilities. It is not suitable for in-product or highly branded experiences.
  • May not suffice for complex, enterprise-level requirements.

I wish I could find a way to download submitted files in bulk--it seems I have to download them one-by-one, unless I'm missing something. It would also be nice to be able to apply custom themes to a form.

While Formstack excels in simplicity and ease of use, its limitations in design flexibility and advanced features may lead some users to seek Formstack alternatives. Let's now explore other form-building platforms, each offering unique functionalities and strengths.

Feathery: #1 Alternative

Feathery is the ideal solution for companies with complex, mission-critical workflows. When compared to Formstack, Feathery offers several key advantages that make it the preferred choice for mission critical forms and workflows.

One of the main reasons enterprise companies like Intuit and Paycor choose Feathery over Formstack is its design flexibility. Feathery's UI builder supports any design, allowing companies to create custom and unique forms, such as Lemonade Insurance's onboarding flow. In contrast, every Formstack form looks the same and lacks the customization options that Feathery offers.

Feathery also stands out for its advanced logic capabilities. It is the only platform that supports calling custom APIs for form data and validations, which is essential for companies with sophisticated workflows and integration needs. Feathery also offers no-code API connectors that allow anyone to create API integrations for pulling in data from or sending data to any system.

Feathery is also the only form builder that offers authentication (ex: allowing users to sign in), AI data extraction/OCR (to extract data from uploaded documents, images, etc)  and more.

Collaborative workflows are crucial for enterprise companies (such as having multiple reviewers/approvers), and Feathery provides the tools and features they require. It supports multiple collaborators on a form, branded document generation, approval flows, user verification, and e-signatures, making it the ideal choice for teams and departments working together on complex processes.

Pros

  • Emphasizes speed and performance, providing fast-loading forms and pages
  • Your go-to form builder if you’re looking for a high level of customization
  • Designed to handle traffic at scale, making it a good choice for businesses anticipating rapid growth
  • Provides advanced tracking and analytical features

Feathery is flexible, powerful, and feature-rich. In addition, the support has been fantastic. They have added features for me and helped me customize forms to fit my requirements.

Cons

  • Given its rich features and capabilities, there might be a steeper learning curve for those unfamiliar with more advanced form-building tools. This might be especially true for non-technical users
  • Fully harnessing Feathery's potential could require more time during the initial setup and customization phases

There is a learning curve, but with the help of their support, all my issues are resolved quickly and efficiently. There isn't really anything I dislike, their team has also taken the initiative to meet with me and ask what features I would like to see on the platform.

Design Flexibility

Feathery offers unparalleled design flexibility compared to Formstack. With Feathery, users have the freedom to create any design they like, while Formstack's design options are limited.

Here’s Feathery's demo video showcasing the recreation of Lemonade's onboarding flow, something that would be impossible to achieve with Formstack. This demonstrates the immense creative potential available with Feathery.

Feathery supports Themes, allowing users to define designs for common components and maintain brand consistency across multiple forms.

When it comes to mobile responsiveness, Feathery provides robust features that allow users to set specific styles or elements to only appear on mobile devices. This is crucial in today's mobile-centric world, where a seamless and visually appealing mobile experience is essential.

Support for Custom APIs and Advanced Logic

Feathery offers robust support for custom APIs and advanced logic, giving users the ability to integrate with external systems and automate complex workflows without writing a single line of code.

Unlike Formstack, Feathery allows you to call custom APIs and make calculations using our no-code rule builder and Javascript editor. This means you can easily connect to any API, send or receive data, and prefill forms with data from systems like Salesforce, HubSpot, or your own internal databases.

Our no-code API connectors make it simple to handle data integration, all within the Feathery platform. Additionally, our advanced logic functionality and overall no-code logic features empower you to create dynamic forms and workflows that respond to user input, route users based on previous inputs, and much more.

With Feathery, you have the flexibility and power to build sophisticated, data-driven processes without the need for coding expertise. Visit our website to learn more about our advanced logic functionality and see how Feathery can streamline your data integration and workflow automation needs.

Robust PDF and Document Generation support

Feathery offers robust PDF and document generation support, allowing users to effortlessly fill any PDF template and generate documents and Excel spreadsheets from form data.

With Feathery, you can create branded PDFs, documents, and Excel files based on form submission data, including the ability to write to tables and capture multiple e-signatures from various stakeholders.

This feature is especially helpful for businesses and organizations that require professional and customized documents for their operations. Additionally, Feathery provides various AI tools to support the migration of PDF forms to online forms, simplifying the transition to digital forms and improving overall efficiency.

Whether you need to populate pre-existing PDF templates, create dynamic documents based on form data, or streamline the conversion of PDF forms to online formats, Feathery's robust PDF and document generation support is designed to meet your needs and simplify your workflow.

Feathery can be a game-changer for your product team.

It’ll empower you to build more advanced, product-grade forms using fewer development resources.

AI Data Extraction Features

Feathery's AI data extraction features revolutionize the form building process by eliminating the need for manual data entry. With the ability to extract information from a wide range of uploaded images and documents, including images, CSVs, PDFs, and even voice recordings, Feathery drastically reduces the time and effort required to convert raw data into usable form entries.

Unlike other form builders, Feathery is the only one to offer this advanced data extraction capability, making it a game-changer for businesses and organizations looking to streamline their workflow and increase efficiency.

Users can simply upload their files, and Feathery's AI technology will automatically extract the necessary information, saving valuable time and resources.

Financial Services Integrations

Feathery is the only form builder that integrates with the following tools to power advanced financial services workflows such as client onboarding, underwriting and more:

  • KYC, Risk & Identity verification vendors like LexisNexis, Alloy, and Persona to verify client identities (ex: Government IDs)
  • Plaid for pulling banking and investment account data
  • eMoney for storing client information
  • Egnyte for secure document storage
  • Equifax for credit checks
  • Morningstar for pulling/sending client investment reports
  • Quikforms for pulling required financial documents

Developer Features

Feathery offers developers a powerful set of features to seamlessly embed into their existing websites, mobile apps, and internal applications. With our React SDK and JS SDK, developers have the ability to easily integrate Feathery into their projects, allowing for a smooth and efficient user experience.

One key feature for developers is the ability to define and run custom callback functions, providing the flexibility to tailor Feathery to their specific needs. This allows for a more personalized and customized integration, ensuring that Feathery aligns perfectly with the developer’s requirements.

Developers also have the option to utilize both staging and production environments, offering a way to test and deploy Feathery in a controlled and systematic manner. This ensures that developers can iron out any potential issues before deploying Feathery into their live applications.

Many customers have successfully integrated Feathery into their production applications, highlighting the reliability and robustness of our developer features. With Feathery, developers can be confident in our SDKs and the support we offer, enabling them to enhance their applications with intuitive and interactive features.

User Verification

Feathery offers advanced user verification options that go beyond simple form submissions. With Feathery, you can authenticate users through various methods such as SMS One-Time-Passcodes, email verification, Google Sign-In, and even scanning Government IDs for Know Your Customer (KYC) compliance.

This level of authentication adds an extra layer of security and ensures that the person submitting the form is who they claim to be. This is especially important for sensitive information and transactions where identity verification is crucial.

Feathery's user verification features make it easy to implement and customize the authentication process for your specific needs. Whether you require a simple email confirmation or a more secure Government ID scan, Feathery has the tools to make it happen.

Advanced Collaboration and Workflow Features

Feathery offers advanced collaboration and workflow features that are designed to streamline the approval process and improve team collaboration. With Feathery, users can easily fill out forms and invite others to verify, approve, add signatures, or make edits, all within a seamless and intuitive interface.

Titanforms

Titanforms is a specialized form-building tool tailored specifically for users and organizations that are deeply integrated with the Salesforce ecosystem.

It is designed to work seamlessly within Salesforce, allowing for the creation, management, and synchronization of forms directly with Salesforce records. This tight integration enables users to leverage Salesforce data effectively, creating forms that are dynamically populated with Salesforce data and automatically updating records based on form responses.

Titanforms is particularly beneficial for businesses that rely heavily on Salesforce for their CRM and data management needs, as it simplifies the process of data collection and ensures that all form data is directly linked to Salesforce.

Pros:

  • Offers robust integration with Salesforce, making it an ideal choice for Salesforce-dependent organizations.
  • Automatically syncs form data with Salesforce records, enhancing data management efficiency.
  • Allows customization of forms based on Salesforce data fields and structures.

Cons:

  • Its functionalities and advantages are significantly reduced when used outside the Salesforce platform.
  • Organizations or individuals not using Salesforce will find it less useful compared to other form builders.

Paperform

Paperform is a versatile and intuitive form builder known for its balance between ease of use and powerful customization capabilities. It stands out for its ability to create forms that are not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing, offering a wide range of design options to match different branding styles.

Users can create various types of forms including surveys, registration forms, and payment pages. Paperform offers features like conditional logic, payment integrations, and various question types, allowing for the creation of comprehensive and interactive forms. The platform also supports embedding forms on websites, email automation, and integrates with a wide array of third-party apps like CRM systems, email marketing tools, and cloud storage services.

Pros:

  • Offers a wide range of customization options, allowing forms to be both visually appealing and functional.
  • Suitable for a variety of purposes, from surveys and registrations to payment collection.
  • Intuitive design makes it easy for beginners to create forms without extensive training.

Paperform ease of use relies on being able to create complex yet straightforward forms. I really like how at the beginning, it seems that it's a blank page, but as soon as you get the hang of it, you can add logic jumps and integrations. Comparatively to Typeform, I've seen better response rates because people are used to the Google Forms formula and Paperform does that but even better.

Cons:

  • While it offers more customization than basic tools, it may lack some advanced features needed for complex data processing.
  • Higher-tier plans, which unlock more features, might be expensive for smaller businesses or individual users.

I'm pretty happy with what I have accomplished with Paperform; maybe the one thing would be that the learning curve was a bit longer than when I used Typeform and that I can't seem to find how to archive instead of delete Forms. I ended up creating a Folder.

Google Forms

Google Forms is a free, user-friendly online form tool offered by Google, part of the Google Workspace. It is highly popular for its simplicity and effectiveness in creating various types of forms, including surveys, quizzes, and event registrations.

The platform supports multiple question types, real-time collaboration, and automatic data collection into Google Sheets, making data analysis straightforward.

While it lacks advanced features like conditional logic or extensive integration capabilities found in more sophisticated platforms, its ease of use and seamless integration with other Google Workspace tools like Google Docs and Google Drive make it a go-to choice for educational purposes, small businesses, and personal use.

Pros:

  • Completely free to use, making it accessible to everyone.
  • Extremely user-friendly with a simple, intuitive interface.
  • Easily integrates with other Google services like Sheets and Drive, enhancing workflow efficiency.

It is a great tool for internal surveys and questionnaires. It is not suited for a robust survey as the results functionality isn't very advanced.

Cons:

  • Only for the simplest use cases: no integrations, advanced logic, calculations, e-signature support, etc.
  • Lacks advanced features for complex form creation and data processing.
  • Offers minimal customization in terms of design and functionality, making it less suitable for branded or complex forms.

This is not a product to use if you're trying to do a longer-form or in-depth survey. For things like an employee engagement survey, we do use a more specific survey tool that provides better insights into responses.

  • User-friendly, with a good balance of simplicity and functionality.

I love that jotform integrates with email service providers and my scheduling system. Additionally, I use the jotform contact form on my website. I appreciate that you can make intake forms visually appealing and also link the form to paypal and stripe for easy purchase. Also, there are tons of tutorials and fantastic customer support to walk you through any issues. I've also used it for class surveys and for getting feedback from my students and you can make the forms visually appealing and easy to use and submit.

Cons:

  • It has a bit of an “identity crisis” as it tries to do too many things at once (ex: trying to be an app builder) but doesn’t do the core features (ex: forms and workflows) in a robust way
  • Very limited design and logic flexibility

The calendar app that is included for free in jotform wasn't too easy for me to figure out and use. So, I use a different scheduling system that has more features.

Pros:

Typeform offers us unparalleled design and branding functionality compared to all other form builders. The logic functionality is intuitive and allows us to create visually stunning e-learning content that is more interactive and engaging than other services. Support is generally excellent, and the community is a great resource. I use Typeform most days in my role, and it has been easily integrated into our business.

Cons:

  • Only 1 design format supported (forms with one question at a time, text-only)
  • Limited in terms of complex data processing.
  • Higher cost compared to some simpler alternatives.

We would like more functionality around form creation based on existing forms. For example, it would be helpful for us to save 'blocks' within our existing forms as templates to be used in other forms. It would also be helpful to organise folders, as the Dashboard can be quite busy.
