About Typeform

Typeform has established itself as a form builder designed for simplicity and ease of use, catering primarily to smaller companies and straightforward use cases.

Its distinctive approach to form design—focusing on a "one question at a time" format—aims to streamline the user experience by avoiding overwhelming respondents with too many questions at once.

Typeform's Sole Product: The Form Builder

The core offering from Typeform is its form builder, a tool that reflects the company's philosophy of simplicity and user-friendly design.

This singular focus on creating an intuitive form-building experience is both a strength and a limitation, as it targets a specific market segment looking for straightforward solutions.

Pros

User-Friendly Design

Typeform is renowned for its intuitive interface and engaging user experience. Its design philosophy centers around the 'one question at a time' approach, which helps reduce user overwhelm and can lead to higher completion rates.

This focus on simplicity makes it an attractive choice for businesses and individuals seeking to create straightforward, aesthetically pleasing forms without needing extensive technical skills.

High Customizability Within Design Constraints

Despite its streamlined approach, Typeform offers a good level of customization within its design framework.

Users can tailor the look and feel of their forms, surveys, and quizzes to match their brand identity, choosing from various templates, color schemes, and typographies. This customization, coupled with the ability to add images, videos, and GIFs, allows for the creation of engaging and personalized forms. But it all of course still has to fit the  'one question at a time' constraint.

I love how easy it is to create a form that can be used across different platforms. We use it embedded on our website to collect data from users in the form of a quiz. We then use their quiz results for user insights and also to help guide them to the best product in our store.

Cons

Limited Use Cases

Typeform's strength in simplicity and design also serves as its limitation for more complex applications. The platform is primarily built for simpler use cases and smaller companies, lacking the depth required for more advanced and enterprise use cases.

Industries such as financial services, healthcare, and insurance, which require intricate form logic, multiple form types, document generation, OCR and higher levels of customization and integration, may find Typeform's capabilities insufficient.

One-Type Form Structure

The very essence of Typeform's user experience—displaying one question at a time—can be a drawback for certain applications. This format does not suit every scenario, especially where a more traditional, multi-question form view is preferable or more efficient.

Users with needs for complex branching logic, extensive forms, or those who wish to provide respondents with the ability to review and edit responses in a single view may find this limiting.

I wish there were more integrations with Shopify. Ideally we could collect customer data and have it directly imported in to Shopify rather than having to use Zapier which adds cost to our usage.

Feathery: The #1 Alternative to Typeform

Feathery stands out as a robust solution for organizations facing complex and critical workflows, offering distinct advantages for those requiring more than the basic functionalities provided by Typeform, particularly for mission-critical forms and workflows.

While Typeform is favored for its simplicity and user-friendly design, enterprises like Intuit and Paycor prefer Feathery for its unmatched design flexibility. Feathery's UI builder enables the crafting of custom and unique forms—unlike Typeform's more standardized approach—allowing for innovative form designs such as those seen in Lemonade Insurance's onboarding process.

Feathery excels in functionality with its advanced integration capabilities. It uniquely accommodates custom APIs for both managing form data and ensuring validations, addressing the needs of businesses with complex systems. This is a step beyond Typeform's offerings, with Feathery's no-code API connectors making system integrations accessible without deep technical expertise.

Additionally, Feathery offers specialized features not found in Typeform, including user authentication and AI data extraction (OCR), which streamline the process of gathering and analyzing data efficiently.

For collaborative operations, Feathery provides an ideal platform. It supports multiple users working simultaneously on a form, tools for creating branded documents, streamlined approval workflows, reliable user verification methods, and e-signature capabilities, making it highly suitable for teams requiring coordinated effort in complex processes.

Pros

Efficiency and Speed: Feathery is designed for optimal performance, ensuring forms and pages load swiftly to maintain a smooth user experience.

Customization at its Best: Offering extensive customization opportunities, Feathery caters to those who seek a tailored form-building experience, far surpassing Typeform's customization limits. You can build any design and match any logic in Feathery

Built for Growth: With capabilities to handle increasing traffic volumes, Feathery is a solid choice for businesses planning for expansion.

Advanced Insights: The platform comes equipped with sophisticated tracking and analytics tools, offering deeper insights into data than Typeform.

We admire Feathery's ease of use, configurability, workflows, and integrations. Our team has deployed multiple customer onboarding forms with a direct URL branded to our website. It's been an integral component of our client operations, and the collection of results, automated email responses, and advanced integrations with our tech stack is perfect.

Cons

Initial Learning Phase: Feathery's wide range of features might require a learning period, particularly for users transitioning from simpler platforms like Typeform.

Setup Considerations: Leveraging Feathery's full potential and customization benefits can necessitate a bit more effort and time at the outset.

The downside is you'll want to place Feathery forms just about everywhere! And for most, that's not a downside. These forms can be embedded to look native as if it's a guided experience taking place in the app.

How Feathery Compares to Typeform

Feathery sets a new standard when compared to Typeform, especially in terms of design flexibility, thematic consistency, and mobile responsiveness—key areas where it significantly outperforms Typeform.

Design Flexibility

Feathery's platform is designed to unleash creative freedom, enabling users to craft any design imaginable. This vast flexibility allows for the recreation of complex processes such as Lemonade's onboarding flow, a feat that's not feasible with Typeform's more restrictive design options. Feathery empowers users to go beyond basic form design, facilitating the creation of highly customized and engaging user experiences that align perfectly with a company's brand identity.

Themes for Consistency: Beyond individual form customization, Feathery introduces the concept of Themes. This feature allows for the definition and application of consistent design elements across multiple forms.

By establishing a set of design standards for common components, organizations can ensure a cohesive and branded experience across all their forms. This level of uniformity in design helps in strengthening brand recognition and enhancing the user's interaction with the forms.

Here’s Feathery's demo video that successfully replicates Lemonade's onboarding flow, showcasing a level of customization and complexity not possible with Typeform. This highlights the significant creative flexibility Feathery provides, illustrating its ability to handle detailed and personalized form designs.

Custom APIs and Advanced Logic Support

Feathery excels in its support for custom APIs and intricate logic, enabling seamless integration with external platforms and the automation of multifaceted workflows—all without the need for coding.

Unlike its counterparts such as Typeform, Feathery offers the unique ability to utilize custom APIs for calculations and data manipulation through an intuitive no-code rule builder and a JavaScript editor.

This empowers users to effortlessly connect with any API, facilitating data transfer and form prefilling with information from platforms like Salesforce, HubSpot, or proprietary internal databases. Feathery simplifies data integration through its user-friendly API connectors and enhances form functionality with dynamic responses to user inputs, leading to more engaging and efficient forms and workflows.

Feathery can be a game-changer for your product team.

It’ll empower you to build more advanced, product-grade forms using fewer development resources.

Enhanced PDF and Document Generation

Feathery offers comprehensive support for PDF and document generation, enabling users to seamlessly populate any PDF template and create documents and Excel spreadsheets directly from form data. This capability extends to generating customized PDFs, documents, and Excel files that reflect your brand, including complex functionalities like writing to tables and obtaining e-signatures from multiple participants.

Additionally, Feathery's suite of AI tools facilitates the transition of traditional PDF forms to digital formats, streamlining the digitization process. Unlike Typeform, which lacks document generation capabilities, Feathery provides a robust solution for all your document creation and management needs, ensuring a versatile and efficient workflow for businesses and organizations.

AI Data Extraction Capabilities

Feathery revolutionizes form building with its AI-powered data extraction features, eliminating manual data entry by automatically extracting information from uploaded files, including images, CSVs, PDFs, and voice recordings.

This unique capability sets Feathery apart as the only form builder offering such advanced data extraction, making it an invaluable tool for businesses seeking to improve workflow efficiency and data accuracy. With Feathery, users can upload files, and the AI will handle the rest, transforming raw data into actionable form entries with unprecedented ease.

Integrations for Financial Services

Feathery stands as the premier form builder offering specialized integrations tailored for advanced financial services workflows.

It supports seamless integration with leading financial tools for KYC, risk and identity verification (e.g., LexisNexis, Alloy, Persona), account data retrieval (Plaid), client information management (eMoney), secure document storage (Egnyte), credit checks (Equifax), investment reporting (Morningstar), and document acquisition (Quikforms).

These integrations empower financial services firms to streamline client onboarding, underwriting, and more, with Feathery as the central hub for all workflow needs.

Developer-Friendly Features

Feathery equips developers with a robust suite of tools for integrating its features into existing websites, mobile apps, and internal platforms. With the React SDK and JS SDK, developers can effortlessly embed Feathery, customizing interactions through custom callback functions to meet specific project needs.

The option to work in both staging and production environments ensures a smooth deployment process, allowing for thorough testing before live implementation. Feathery's reliability and comprehensive developer support make it a favored choice for enhancing applications with advanced form and workflow capabilities.

Advanced User Verification

Unlike Typeform, Feathery enhances security and authenticity with sophisticated user verification methods, including SMS OTPs, email verification, Google Sign-In, and government ID scans for KYC purposes.

This robust verification framework ensures the integrity of form submissions, crucial for transactions involving sensitive information. Feathery's flexible authentication options cater to diverse security requirements, offering customizable verification processes to suit any organization's needs.

Titanforms

Titanforms stands out as a form builder specifically designed for those heavily invested in the Salesforce ecosystem. Its core functionality lies in its seamless integration with Salesforce, facilitating the creation, handling, and syncing of forms directly with Salesforce databases.

This integration ensures forms can dynamically draw from Salesforce data, streamlining the process of form creation and ensuring real-time updates to records based on user responses.

For businesses that use Salesforce as their cornerstone for CRM and data management, Titanforms offers a streamlined approach to data collection, directly connecting form inputs with Salesforce for easy data tracking.

Pros:

  • Deep Salesforce integration ideal for users reliant on this ecosystem.
  • Direct synchronization with Salesforce records, boosting data management capabilities.
  • Customizable forms that adapt to the unique data fields and structures of Salesforce.

Cons:

  • Limited utility beyond the Salesforce platform, constraining its broader application.
  • Less beneficial for users or organizations not engaged with Salesforce, compared to alternative form builders.

Paperform

Paperform stands out as an intuitive form builder that masterfully blends ease of use with deep customization potential. Renowned for its capability to produce not just functional but also beautifully designed forms, it offers a plethora of styling options to align with different brand identities.

From conducting surveys and managing registrations to facilitating payments, Paperform provides a comprehensive set of features, including conditional logic, integrated payment solutions, and a wide variety of question types, enabling the creation of engaging and interactive forms.

Additionally, it supports direct form embedding, email automation, and integration with a broad spectrum of third-party applications, ranging from CRM systems to email marketing and cloud storage services.

Pros:

  • Rich customization possibilities make forms visually appealing and highly functional.
  • Versatile enough for creating surveys, registration forms, and accepting payments.
  • Intuitive interface simplifies form design for users at any skill level.

I've researched and used a few other solutions before discovering Paperform, and so far Paperform has been the only one that offered features and integrations that tend to all of my needs. I usually work with very long and complex forms and Paperform's simple interface makes it a lot easier. Also, Paperform communicates really well with Zapier, which was one of my main issues before I started working with it.

Cons:

  • May lack the more sophisticated features needed for complex data management.
  • Higher subscription levels, offering additional functionalities, might be costly for small businesses or solo practitioners.

When I need to ask questions that have a lot of multiple-choice answers, it would be nice to have more customization options, like a dropdown with a search bar and such. I would also like to have an option to keep partial submissions for responders in case they lose connection or can't answer everything all at once, so they can start where they left off instead of having to start all over again.

Google Forms

Google Forms, a staple of the Google Workspace suite, offers a straightforward and cost-free solution for form creation. Celebrated for its user-friendliness, Google Forms enables the rapid assembly of various form types such as surveys, quizzes, and event sign-ups.

It supports diverse question formats, allows for real-time collaboration, and directly channels data into Google Sheets for effortless analysis. Although it might not boast the advanced functionalities of its more elaborate counterparts—like conditional logic or extensive third-party integrations—its seamless operation alongside Google Docs and Drive positions it as an ideal choice for educators, small enterprises, and personal projects.

Pros:

  • Completely free, providing universal access.
  • Straightforward and intuitive design for ease of use.
  • Smooth integration with Google Sheets and Drive, streamlining workflows.

Google Forms is great when using it in a classroom setting or for capturing data on a website or blog posting. I feel it is less appropriate when using form for survey questions. Or trying to customize your on templates.

Cons:

  • Primarily suited to basic tasks due to the absence of advanced integration and logic features.
  • Limited in terms of complex form creation and data management capabilities.
  • Offers only basic customization, reducing its applicability for branded or intricate form needs.

Perhaps the main disadvantage is the customization, definitely the templates available are very limited and the fonts are reduced.

JotForm

JotForm excels as a form builder with its wide array of features and seamless integration capabilities across various platforms. Known for its user-friendly design, JotForm allows for swift custom form creation without the need for coding expertise.

Catering to a vast spectrum of industries including healthcare, education, and event management, it offers an extensive selection of templates and customization options. JotForm's robust analytics, efficient payment processing, and stringent security protocols position it as a comprehensive solution for businesses in search of an all-encompassing form tool.

The platform's support for diverse media types and conditional logic further enhances the interactivity and personalization of forms.

Pros:

  • Wide-ranging integrations enhance its versatility.
  • Diverse templates provide options for every industry.
  • Intuitive design strikes a perfect balance between ease of use and advanced functionality.

Having worked in non-profits for so many years, I often didn't have company access to software. Finding Jotform was a huge asset to me because I was able to create forms for community programs and grants without having to worry about the cost. Jotform is super user friendly and the account setup was quick. There are templates to choose from if you aren't super comfortable building your own form. I particularly like how I linked it to my e-mail and was able to get responses in real-time.

Cons:

  • Attempts to juggle multiple functionalities may dilute its effectiveness in core areas.
  • Design and logic customizations are somewhat restricted.

With any free program, there are always downsides. My biggest complaint about Jotform was the lack of customization in terms of format.

Cons:

  • Design flexibility might be limited for advanced customization needs.
  • Interface aesthetics may appear slightly dated to some users.

I'm not the biggest fan of the design. It's slightly outdated and not user friendly, especially for users that prefer a more modern look. The CSS option also isn't as flexible for customization so that's a bummer.

Pros:

  • Excels in creating detailed forms for complex needs.
  • Seamlessly integrates payment processing, making it suitable for online sales.
  • Provides a rich selection of templates and advanced customization options.

It's quick and easy to set up basic forms and have them operational. There is some flexibility related to plans, but the limits could be higher. The user interface is also easy but still looks outdated.

Shaun H.

Director of Information Technology

Source: G2

Cons:

  • The user interface may lack the modernity and intuitiveness found in rival platforms.
  • Access to certain high-level features necessitates a premium subscription.

The competition is able to innovate faster with upgrades, user interface, and integration capabilities with other software at a pricing plan that makes more sense than Formsite. Formsite is okay for starting out, but the limits of the plans and outdated look and feel and functionality are tougher to overcome.

The platform enables the design of intricate forms with features such as conditional logic, automated calculations, and pre-population of fields, coupled with workflow automation to streamline operations.

Pros:

  • Powerful tool for comprehensive data collection and form automation.
  • Tailored for complex use cases and large-scale organizational needs.
  • Highly adaptable, featuring extensive customization and integration options.

Clear documentation, fast and friendly chat support, easy implementation and well documented updates. Regular additional training and update information available through the company. Does some real magic that we love to utilize the system for.

Jonathan P.

FormAssembly User

Source: G2

Cons:

  • The complexity of features may result in a more challenging learning curve.
  • Enterprise-level solutions come with a higher price tag.
  • Does not offer robust support for document management, e-signature processes, or OCR capabilities, which are often essential for enterprise contexts.

Email support is difficult, especially compared to chat support (which is phenomenal). The tool is incredibly powerful, so it feels complicated at times. I feel at times that I want to carve out a day to work in FormAssembly, but my schedule doesn't allow the big blocks of time that are required for bigger efforts. It is hard to take a big effort in FA and carve it up into tiny pieces.

Supporting features such as file uploads, custom post generation, and integration with popular email marketing and payment platforms, Gravity Forms ensures a versatile form-building experience.

Pros:

  • Deep integration with the WordPress ecosystem ensures seamless functionality.
  • Offers advanced features and add-ons catering to diverse requirements.
  • Boasts a robust community and developer support network.

Out of all of the Form builder plugins I've tried for WordPress, Gravity Forms has been my favourite for its range of features and options and reliability. It's easy to use and provides enough granular control over the different features.

Dan S.

Co-Chair

Source: G2

Cons:

  • Exclusively tailored for WordPress, limiting its usability for non-WordPress and modern websites.
  • Certain add-ons and advanced features may necessitate additional purchases.
  • Lacks comprehensive support for document management, e-signature processes, or OCR capabilities.

Even with the paid Developer license, I feel like Gravity Forms could try to offer a bit more in terms of specialty form field types and when it comes to form design and styling. Of course, there's the ability to buy add-ons and extensions, but it's harder to justify that expense to clients or managers who don't quite understand what the expense is for.

  • Some limitations in integrating with third-party platforms outside the Zoho ecosystem.

Cognito has been easy to use from the get-go, from both a platform and a customer relations standpoint. The staff was very helpful in getting us up and rolling. Cons:

  • May present a learning curve for novice users, potentially lacking in intuitiveness.
  • Absence of robust support for document management, e-signature workflows, or OCR functionalities.

While the platform is easy to use, sometimes you do have to hunt and peck to find what you are looking for. The how-to guides are robust, but one or two videos might be needed, especially when it comes to sending responses automatically to other people. Also, there are two missing functions that I'm wishing for more than anything: the ability to import an electronic form into the platform (like Jotform does), and the ability to send responses to Google Sheets without having to use an intermediary like Zapier.
